BADMINTON NEWS – SPIRITED DAREN LIEW CLAIMS HIS FIRST EVER SUPER SERIES TITLE AT FRENCH OPEN –

In the final battle, Daren overpowered his talented opponent Viktor Axelsen of Denmark who also played terrific badminton throughout the contest.

Malaysia’s Daren Liew finally achieved the biggest title of his professional career as he emerged as the winner in the Yonex French Open Super Series 2012 at Paris, France, on Sunday, October 28.

In the final battle, Daren overpowered his talented opponent Viktor Axelsen of Denmark who also played terrific badminton throughout the contest.

The World Number 24 Daren, who was an un-seeded player in the tournament, played with remarkable speed and passion all the way and grabbed Men’s Singles title to prove that he has stepped into the highest class of badminton.

On the other hand, Axelsen failed to put up strong show as he could not create gaps in his rival’s court at crucial stages and eventually lost the battle without proving his impressive skills on court.

Daren performed extremely well from the opening rallies of first set as he played with spectacular speed and grabbed the control of the game without showing any respect to his opponent.

The author really likes Darren’s speed…we counted 4 adjectives in addition to powerful, cruel, aggressive, and commanding to describe the play by Liew.

PBA Spare Shots: World Series “Arena” to Introduce Stub Lane for Practice

The GEICO World Series of Bowling will be held Nov. 2-11, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV. The event is “sold out!”

WORLD SERIES “ARENA” TO INTRODUCE STUB LANE FOR PRACTICE

The special Brunswick bowling lane installation in South Point Exhibition Hall A in Las Vegas that will house the ESPN-televised finals of all six GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling IV events will include a change this year with the introduction of a stub lane for use in practice between stepladder matches, PBA Commissioner Tom Clark has announced.

In addition to the two lanes that will be used for the actual competition, Clark said the shortened lane will be built in an off-camera area by the Brunswick crew….

“I want everyone to understand how important the integrity of the competition is to us,” he added. “There are enough other situations that are not ideal when you involve television, such as moving to an arena instead of being in the bowling center where qualifying was held. Our goal is to manage what we can in the interest of fairness and integrity; the addition of the stub lane is a significant step in accomplishing that goal.”

For our Packer Backer Friends – Sleep with your Cheesehead!

now you too can sleep with the cheese heads!

Straight from the bowels of SkyMall’s version of Hell comes Verlo Mattress Factory’s CHEESEHEAD BED, advertised as the “World’s First,” a “customized fan experience that combines a good night sleep with championship football, perfect for the die-hard fans of the Green Bay Packers”. At first, you’re probably like, “that’s cool, I’ll buy that for my 6-year old, he loves football,” but no, that bed is pretty clearly being enjoyed by the two worst adults in America.

The Cheesehead Bed (created, I’m assuming, by a guy whose “go down on me wearing the Cheesehead” fetish got boring) isn’t just a novelty item … it’s a continued novelty existence. For example, it doesn’t have a standard retail price. If the Packers win, the bed is $599. If they don’t, it’s $799. A clear message to football fans: only support your team if they’re winning.

Not exactly what we had in mind…Police: Gambling Ring Found At Youth Football Games

We love the game…gambling on it, is however, illegal.

Authorities have arrested nine people, including several football coaches, they say were gambling on youth football games and setting point spreads prior to games.

Broward Sheriff’s officials searched two alleged gambling houses Monday where they say people were betting on professional, college and youth games. The nine men arrested were charged with bookmaking and some were charged with keeping a gambling house. Authorities say the suspects had direct ties to the South Florida Youth Football League and several have extensive criminal histories.

Florida high school gets crazy Oregon-like unis

Florida high school gets crazy Oregon-like unis

Surely, you remember the stir caused by the crazy neon uniforms of Atlantic High School in Delray Beach, FL, last month that went viral on the internet.

Well, apparently the rapper Flo Rida was so enamored with them that he had his high school alma mater contact the company that created them, Futuristic Woo, to create equally outrageous threads for Miami (FL) Carol City High. The uniforms will be worn next season as a gift from the rapper to celebrate the high school’s 50th anniversary.

The resulting look? A Halloween horror of black and orange.
