CNN: X Games too extreme? New questions after snowmobile accident

Caleb Moore crashed after attempting a back flip during his run at the Winter X Games freestyle snowmobile contest.

Oof! Ouch! This year’s Winter X Games have produced some serious injuries. We told you about the Battersby girls and Iceland’s Helgason. Now there is Colton and Caleb Moore. Both brothers (unlike the unrelated Battersby girls) crashed their sleds in the freestyle snowmobile competition. At first it was thought Caleb Moore just banged his head pretty hard. Later it was found the impact caused an injury that resulted in blood filling his chest cavity. Luckily the docs caught it in time and performed emergency surgery saving his life.

The number and severity of this year’s injuries has caused CNN to take notice.

See the footage on YouTube here.

And next time thank those Ski Patrollers/First Aid Providers/Medics who are there to help.

That was Some Bad Day for the Battersby Girls at the Winter X-Games

One Battersby suffered lumbar fractures and the other Battersby suffered a femur fracture.

According to TotalProSports.com: ‘If you’re last name is Battersby, you had a pretty bad day at the Winter X-Games yesterday in Aspen.

Now, I know what you’re wondering: how many people named “Battersby” are there at the Winter X-Games? Well, the answer is two. And both competed in the women’s ski slopestyle competition, though they are not related. Rose Battersby is a 20-year-old from New Zealand. Ashley Battersby is a 25-year-old from the USA.

Unfortunately, both Rose and Ashley had to be taken off the slopestyle course on a stretcher on Sunday.’

Winter X Games can be hazardous…

Iceland’s Halldor Helgason is about to crash big time at the 2013 Winter X Games

X Games Snowboarder Halldor Helgason was attempting a triple backflip when he over-rotated. The result? A tremendous face plant on the landing. The Ski Patrol brought in the backboard and sent Helgason on a sled ride to the hospital for a precautionary CT Scan and MRI. Reports are Helgason suffered a concussion on Friday night during the finals of the America’s Navy Snowboard Big Air competition at X Games Aspen.

Helgason, who is 22, won the gold in Big Air in 2010 and is the only Icelandic athlete to medal in the Winter X Games.

Oh, Torstein Horgmo of Norway out jumped Canadian Mark McMorris to win Big Air gold…

Will Lance ever race again?

Lance Armstrong may not ever race bikes again…but, what about scooters?

Lance Armstrong was contrite and possibly honest in his interview with Oprah. Will the powers that be ever allow Lance to compete again? If so in what sport discipline will he take his chances? We think scooter racing is his best bet.

Underwater Boxing….

How did we know the underwater boxers would be women?

OK, so there’s this site called Pad Gadget which posts about weird sports apps… Why did they use a shot of underwater, tank-topped boxers? Well we know why (and that’s why we used it, too). To get the men to take notice! Well some of the Apps are pretty interesting. Beer Pong HD. Ultimate Arm Wrestling. Lawn Mower Madness. These are right down our alley. It should be right down your alleys, too!

Look at the other apps here.

A photobomb update for our CEO!

Where in the world is Aaron Rodgers?

Apparently Aaron Rodgers is quite the photobomber! He appears in a collection of shots of the Green Bay Packers sideline shots. Wonder if he is still up to these antics now that he is a franchise QB in his own right?

You can search for Waldo (Aaron Rodgers) here!

We’re so lucky those Russian drivers love their dash cams!

Watch closely as something is ejected from the back of this station wagon!

We aren’t saying this has anything to do with sports. Except that the average Russian loves his/her dash video cam! We don’t know when it started…but, it seems every car in Russia is outfitted with a dash cam. Thank goodness the camera was rolling when this family decided to take a winter outing. As the car begins its slide we can only hope they used a car seat…a seat belt…anything? Well, watch and see what falls out of this car. At least the truckers know what they are doing!

Watch the fun here!

Looking for the trail home?

While we were sitting in our offices in the cold weather up here in the Northeast, we thought of you folks out there who just sit around. The climbers are on their way down the mountain by the time most of us are thinking about lunch…

Is rest deserved?
